Olympique Lyonnais came from behind to register a success against ten-man Vitória SC in rain-soaked Guimaraes and secure top spot in Group I.

Home hopes of qualifying had disappeared before matchday six, but the hosts showed plenty of fight and went ahead through Tomané on 11 minutes. They were nonetheless pegged back in the second half when Pedro Correia received his second yellow card in giving away a penalty which Bafétimbi Gomis converted, and Jordan Ferri won it for the visitors.

With only honour to play for, Guimarães came out fired up and went ahead when Lyon failed to clear David Addy's free-kick, allowing Tomané to control the loose ball on his chest and rattle an effort past Anthony Lopes.

With the rain hampering their style, Lyon took time to settle, but Arnold Mvuemba sparked the visitors as he whistled an effort just wide from the edge of the area, before home goalkeeper Douglas palmed away Ferri's shot from range. At the other end, Mehdi Zeffane cleared Rafael Crivellaro's attempt off the line after the midfielder's chip had beaten Lopes.

The game swung in the 62nd minute, shortly after Zeffane had crashed against the bar, as Correia brought down Yoann Gourcuff and received his marching orders, with Gomis scoring from the penalty spot.

The numerical advantage paid dividends almost immediately as, three minutes after the equaliser, Addy cleared Gaël Danic's cross into the path of Ferri, who found the net. Nii Plange and Freire both hit the post late on for the home side, but the equaliser was not forthcoming, meaning Rui Vitória's men ended the group third.
