Liverpool FC welcome FC Augsburg to Anfield looking to pip the European debutants to a place in the UEFA Europa League last 16 after their first leg in Germany ended goalless.

• Jürgen Klopp's return to his homeland did not result in victory as his Liverpool side were kept at bay by Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz, with Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Alberto Moreno all thwarted in a 0-0 stalemate.

• The result was the Reds' seventh UEFA Europa League goalless draw in total, a new competition record.

Previous meetings
• The clubs are meeting for the second time. The first leg was Augsburg's maiden encounter with English opposition.

• Liverpool's record in 33 games against German teams is W15 D12 L6 (W11 D3 L0 at home). They won their first European trophy by beating VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 1973 UEFA Cup final and overcame the same opponents in the 1977 European Champion Clubs' Cup decider.

Form guide
• Liverpool are unbeaten in five European home matches (W2 D3) since a 3-0 loss to Real Madrid CF in the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League group stage.

• Augsburg have won their last two continental away fixtures.

• Liverpool lost to Beşiktaş JK on penalties in last season's round of 32 and to FC Zenit at the same stage of their previous UEFA Europa League appearance, in 2012/13. The 1973, 1976 and 2001 UEFA Cup winners last made it to the round of 16 in 2010/11, eliminating AC Sparta Praha and then bowing out to SC Braga.

• Founded in 1907, Augsburg finished fifth in Germany last term to qualify directly for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
