Davi could not hide his delight after his goal earned SL Benfica a 3-2 UEFA Futsal Cup final victory against holders Interviú Madrid in Lisbon, a triumph he put down to the home fans.

In front of the biggest crowd to watch a UEFA futsal fixture, Davi thrilled the 9,400 fans at the Pavilhão Atlántico with the extra-time goal that gave Benfica the trophy for the first time and denied the competition's most successful club. Even though Davi had won the UEFA Futsal Cup before with Action 21 Charleroi in 2005, it did not make this victory any less special for the Brazilian.

"I'm so happy now words almost can't describe it but if I'm completely honest with you I never thought that my goal would have turned out to be the winner," the 30-year-old told UEFA.com. "I had a lot of chances in the game so it was a relief that one of them finally went in."

Despite the fact that the Eagles went behind to Marquinho's early strike, Davi was never in doubt that he and his team-mates would recover to achieve a historic victory. "The key to the game didn't arrive on the pitch; it came as soon as we got to the arena and received such an inspiring welcome from the fans," he explained. "I thought from the first moment we arrived the trophy would be staying here in Lisbon; we felt there was no way we could lose."

The former Sporting Clube de Portugal player added: "It was amazing to score and to look at the stands and see thousands of people screaming and jumping about. I dedicate my goal to God, to my wife and child and of course to all of our fans."
