Article body
Ukraine qualified for the final tournament of the 2003/04 UEFA European Under-17 Championship after two goals from Oleksandr Gladkyy saw off second qualifying round Group 5 hosts Germany in front of 3.500 spectators.
First place assured
With Denmark, themselves beaten by two Gladkyy goals on Thursday, overcoming Slovakia 5-0 today, Ukraine are assured of first place, with neither of their victims - who meet on Monday - able to catch them on head-to-head record. Gladkyy's first goal came on the half-hour and the second 17 minutes from time.
Coach philosophical
German coach Paul Schomann said: "I cannot fault my team. We did not take our chances, while Ukraine took theirs." Ukraine, who will travel to France in May for the finals, meet Slovakia on Monday, while Germany must beat Denmark to finish in second place.
