Luxembourg completed their preparations for hosting the UEFA European Under-17 Championship with a narrow defeat by the Netherlands.

Ruud Kaiser's Dutch squad missed out on the U17 finals on goal difference to Germany, with last year's squad having finished runners-up in Italy and gone on to win bronze at the FIFA U-17 World Championship, but at the Sportpark Junglinster the Netherlands coach fielded a team with an eye on next season's competition.

Spain opener
Against a full-strength Luxembourg team who created a number of opportunities, Rence van der Wal of Go Ahead Eagles struck the only goal 15 minutes in. Next Wednesday Luxembourg's finals campaign begins against Spain in Dudelange. They then meet further Group A rivals Hungary and Russia.
