Sweden gain consolation win

Sweden 3-2 Denmark Victory against their neighbours gives Sweden comfort despite being eliminated.

Sweden and Denmark may both have already been out of the running to make the UEFA European Under-19 Championship finals, but there was clearly plenty at stake as the Scandinavian rivals produced a five-goal thriller in Bury.

Berg winner
Respective defeats for these sides against England had left the Elite round Group 1 hosts assured of qualification with a game to spare - which they won against Moldova today - but second place and local pride was still there to play for here and only when Marcus Berg gave Sweden the lead for the third time in the 88th minute was the game settled.

Close encounter
Marcus Pode gave Sweden a 1-0 advantage on ten minutes, but Morten Kruuse equalised 14 minutes later. The unfortunate Navid Dayyani put through an own goal just after the half-hour to leave Denmark trailing again, only for Martin Spelmann to level 23 minutes from the end. But Berg's winner settled the game to leave Sweden second on six points, five ahead of Denmark, who pipped Moldova to third on goal difference.
