Ukraine sign off with a win

Lithuania 0-3 Ukraine Yuri Kalitvintsev side end their 2004/05 Elite round campaign on a victorious note.

Yuri Kalitvintsev's Ukraine side ended their 2004/05 UEFA European Under-19 Championship Elite round campaign on a winning note with a 3-0 victory against Lithuania at the Spartak stadium in Moscow.

Hopes ended
Friday's 5-1 defeat against Norway - who clinched first position in the section, and therefore qualified for the finals in Northern Ireland in July, with a 1-1 draw against mini-tournament hosts Russia today - ended Ukraine's hopes of progressing from Group 6, although the win against Lithuania enabled Kalitvintsev's players to overhaul Russia and claim second place.

Fomin double
Ruslan Fomin opened the scoring for Ukraine in the 19th minute, his second goal in as many games, before 17-year-old fellow forward Oleksandr Gladkyy doubled the lead just past the hour. Fomin wrapped up the win with his second and his team's third three minutes from time to ensure his side finished with six points, one less than the Norwegians. Lithuania, meanwhile, finished without a point having lost all three games, conceding eight goals in the process without scoring themselves.
