Fatmire Bajramaj's hopes of playing in her fourth consecutive European club final appear to have been dashed by an ankle injury.
The 24-year-old 1. FFC Frankfurt forward was replaced 40 minutes into Saturday's 2-0 German Women's Cup final defeat by FC Bayern München and has undergone a scan which diagnosed a right ankle strain. The injury is expected to sideline Bajramaj for between eight and ten days, rendering her unfit to face Olympique Lyonnais in the UEFA Women's Champions League showpiece at Munich's Olympiastadion on Thursday.
Frankfurt general manager Siegfried Dietrich, whose charges have already been deprived the services of regular goalkeeper Nadine Angerer, said: "It would be a miracle if she could play on Thursday. This is tragic for Lira as she has just recovered from another injury."
Bajramaj has faced Lyon in the final twice in the last two years as a 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam player, winning in 2010 but losing 12 months ago prior to joining Frankfurt. In 2009 the Germany regular helped FCR 2001 Duisburg claim their last UEFA Women's Cup against WFC Zvezda 2005 Perm.
