Iceland goalkeeper Gudbjörg Gunnarsdóttir is to join UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-finalists 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on 1 January 2014, having agreed a deal until summer 2015.

The 28-year old, capped 28 times, arrives from Norwegian side Avaldsnes IL. Gunnarsdóttir said: "The conditions Turbine offer for training and the general setting is outstanding. I cannot imagine having a better chance to improve. If one of the best teams in the world makes you an offer, you cannot say no."

Potsdam coach Bernd Schröder, whose team face  Italy's ASD Torres CF in March, added: "We have decided after thoroughly considering different possibilities to sign an international keeper until summer 2015 at least, not having had one since Alyssa Naeher's departure. We are convinced that Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir will help us a lot, in the Bundesliga and the Champions League."
