Six days before they open UEFA Women's EURO 2013 against Denmark, tournament hosts Sweden rounded off their preparations in style by defeating England 4-1 in Ljungskile.

Having fallen behind after 13 minutes to Ellen White's neat finish, Pia Sundhage's side roared back and led at the break thanks to Antonia Göransson and Lotta Schelin. Captain Caroline Seger made it three after the restart before Schelin tapped in from close range.

With the teams having drawn their previous warm-up games, both were keen to head into the finals on the back of a morale-boosting win. It was England who got off to a flying start. Alex Scott cut out a pass in the Sweden half, allowing Fara Williams to release White, whose strike on the run nestled in the far corner.

The lead lasted all of 15 minutes. Marie Hammarström sent a ball over the top of the visitors' defence which Göransson sprinted on to and gave Karen Bardsley no chance with a tidy finish. Bardsley picked the ball out of the net again before the break after Seger's cross from the right was flicked on by Kosovare Asllani to the lurking Schelin – the Olympique Lyonnais forward made no mistake.

The home team's momentum continued after the interval. Seger dispossessed Anita Asante – who plays her club football in Sweden for Göteborg FC – in the middle of the park, exchanged passes with Schelin and fired in. Schelin added the gloss, tapping in on the goal line after her initial shot had come back off a post. "You do not always score four goals against England, but Wednesday is when it counts," said Schelin.

England's only significant sight of goal in the second half was a powerful long-distance shot from Toni Duggan which Kristin Hammarström palmed away at full stretch. To make matters worse for England coach Hope Powell, defender Sophie Bradley was carried off clutching her left ankle after appearing to catch her studs in the turf.

While Sweden face Denmark on the first day of UEFA Women's EURO 2013, England get their campaign under way two days later in Linkoping against Spain.
