Bilgili delight
Club president Serdar Bilgili accompanied Tayfur at a press conference today and expressed his delight at the deal, which is a huge boost to the Istanbul club ahead of their UEFA Champions League campaign, which begins in the group stage in September. "With his personality and professionalism, he is a very good model for a captain. I am proud to be here at his contract signing ceremony," Bilgili said.
'A great honour'
Tayfur was also a happy man. "It's a great honour for me to be captain of a club that won the championship in their centenary year," he said. "This is just the start of the road for us. We are more ambitious for next season and we have bigger targets, especially in Europe."
Six-year spell
The 33-year-old Tayfur arrived at Besiktas in 1997 from Kocaelispor, having played for Fenerbahçe SK and SV Darmstadt 98 earlier in his career. During his six-year spell with Besiktas he has played more than 200 matches.
