Born in San Marino, which has a population of just over 33,000, Chiara Beccari began playing football in the summer camps organised by the San Marino Football Federation (FSCG).

It didn't take long before she had the attention of clubs in Italy, earning a move to Juventus.

Beccari was selected to play for Italy at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, aged just 18, before receiving a call-up for UEFA Women's EURO 2025. But her journey to the top may not have been possible without the support of UEFA's HatTrick programme.

UEFA's Europe-wide support for football development

The San Marino Football Federation has been supported by the UEFA Women's Football Development Programme (WFDP).

Between 2024 and 2028, each of our national associations is eligible for up to €300,000 per season through the WFDP. Of this total amount, €150,000 is for league development, €100,000 is for the minimum standards framework and €50,000 is for club licensing.

The WFDP uses dedicated funding from UEFA HatTrick, which redistributes revenue from the men's EURO.

By the end of HatTrick's fifth four-year cycle in June 2024, we had invested a cumulative total of €2.6bn across our 55 member associations. A total budget of €935m has been redistributed from EURO 2024 for the current four-year cycle.

Supporting San Marino's footballing infrastructure

The FSCG used HatTrick funding to develop its Women's Football Development Programme, which is providing vital services such as free transport to training sessions, dedicated teams for female players and structured academy support.

Beccari benefitted from all these initiatives, playing in the youth teams of the San Marino Academy until moving from her rural hometown aged 14 to join the youth set-up at Juventus.

After fruitful loan spells at Como and Sassuolo, Beccari has established herself as a key player at Juventus, winning the Serie A title, the Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup and being named as Italian Golden Girl for 2023. Her performances have been rewarded with a contract extension until 2028.

Beccari holds Italian citizenship and was first selected to play for the senior team in April 2023, becoming Italy’s youngest Women's World Cup starter just a few months later.

After playing a key role in Italy's qualification campaign for Women's EURO 2025, the 20-year-old striker was expected to be an important player in Switzerland, only to be cruelly ruled out on the eve of the tournament with a thigh injury.

Despite this setback, Beccari is a name to look out for at future tournaments.
