UEFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee chairman Borislav Mihaylov has paid tribute to the fast-growing sport at the UEFA Futsal EURO 2012 finals draw in Zagreb on Friday.

The tournament runs from 31 January to 11 February in Croatia next year with 12 teams competing for the trophy. Those contenders range from perennial champions Spain to newcomers Turkey, who have developed quickly since their team was formed less than five years ago.

Mihaylov, a UEFA Executive Committee member, said: "In my capacity of chairman of the UEFA Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee, I would like to express my warmest congratulations to the 12 teams who have qualified for the final round. A special mention also to the only national team that have qualified for the first time, Turkey.

"For the organisers, your efforts will now intensify as the final preparations are made to stage this top-class event. On behalf of the UEFA President Michel Platini, I would like to thank the Croatian Football Federation [HNS], which is working hard to make UEFA Futsal EURO 2012 a success, and also the two host city authorities of Zagreb and Split, that are strongly supporting the event as well."
