Futsal's favourite sons

uefa.com focuses on eight players who could set the UEFA European Futsal Championship finals alight.

With the UEFA European Futsal Championship taking place in Caserta and Aversa this week, uefa.com focuses on eight players who could set the tournament alight.

Tim Vergauwen (Belgium)
With almost eight years of international experience behind him, Tim Vergauwen is the most consistently impressive performer Belgium has. His country's all-time top scorer with 38 goals from 63 games, he has a predatory instinct around the box and is skilful with the ball at his feet. It is a measure of Vergauwen's importance that he scored his side's first goal in every qualifier.

Daniel Rajnoch (Czech Republic)
When play switches or circumstances dictate, the best Futsal players can move from defence to attack in an instant. Such talent is rare, but Daniel Rajnoch certainly has it. The 28-year-old has been a stalwart of the national side for the past three years, achieving his call-up relatively late but making up for lost time with 22 goals in 43 internationals.

Adriano Foglia (Italy)
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, 21-year-old Adriano Foglia became an Italian citizen when he joined Serie A1 side Augusta in 1999. His skills lit up the Italian Championship and within months he was a regular in the national side. A summer move to Stabia has not affected his form, and his close control and eye for goal make him the hosts' brightest talent.

Joel Queirós (Portugal)
The leading light of a new 'golden generation' in Portuguese Futsal, 20-year-old Joel Queirós could take Italy by storm. Last season, his goals fired Freixieiro to the Portuguese title, adding to the silverware he won as an under-18 with Covela, Gaia and Boavista.

Sergey Ivanov (Russia)
Sergey Ivanov is a former footballer who turned to the five-a-side game and made it his own. The talented 24-year-old played for local St Petersburg football teams before discovering Futsal in 1998, and has been the star of emerging Russian side Norilski Nickel ever since. His pace is outstanding, and his strong left foot helps him to outfox defenders during his trademark forays down the wing.

Milivoje Simeunovic (Slovenia)
Bosnian-born Milivoje Simeunovic, 27, is an accomplished playmaker regarded by many as eastern Europe's most technically-gifted player. After two successful seasons in Italy with Firenze and Bologna, he returned to Slovenia for tournament matches with the likes of Perspektiva, Gradvoz, Leka Bar and Dario. Simeunovic's two goals were key in Slovenia's crucial 6-2 qualifying victory over the Netherlands.

Javi Sánchez (Spain)
Scorer of the extra-time winner which handed Spain the last European Futsal Championship trophy with a 2-1 win over Ukraine, at 32, this could be Javi Sánchez's last chance to taste such glory again. The 32-year-old kicked is now playing for Spanish side Playas de Castellón, the reigning UEFA Futsal Cup champions and has sharpened his skills at the very highest level. He has excellent close control and vision.

Serhiy Koridze (Ukraine)
How do you stop Serhiy Koridze scoring? It's a question that no opponent has really been able to answer effectively. He scored ten goals in three matches during Ukraine's qualifying campaign and won the golden boot as top scorer in last season's Russian Championship with DINA Moscow. Often described as the best player outside Spain and Brazil, he is one of the 20 greatest players in the world game at the moment.
