Hungary staged the 2010 UEFA European Futsal Championship final round, the first since the expansion to 12 teams. The final tournament, played from 19-30 January to occupy a previously vacant slot in the UEFA calendar, took place at Budapest's Papp László Sportaréna and Debrecen's Főnix Arena. Hungary follow in the footsteps of previous hosts Spain (1999), Russia (2001), Italy (2003), the Czech Republic (2005) and Portugal (2007), and have experience of staging several continental football finals, including the 1985 UEFA European Under-16 Championship – the first after an expansion to 16 sides – the 1990 UEFA European U18 Championship and the 2005 UEFA European Women's U19 Championship.
