Striker Grzegorz Rasiak will become only the sixth Polish footballer to play in Italy's Serie A after agreeing a three-year contract with AC Siena.

Following Polish greats
Rasiak, who is expected to sign for Siena on Friday, will follow in the footsteps of compatriots Piotr Czachowski, Dariusz Adamczuk, Marek Kozminski, Wladyslaw Zmuda and Zbigniew Boniek.

Long-held ambition
He told uefa.com: "I've always wanted to play in Italy, so although I've had many different offers, I asked my manager to concentrate on this one, and then I waited until Siena had confirmed a place in Serie A next year." Siena did just that, by beating Modena FC 3-1 last weekend.

Released by Groclin
The 25-year old, who has scored three goals in ten appearances for Poland, was released by Groclin Grodzisk Wielkopolski after refusing to sign a new contract when the club recently halved player's salaries. He flies to Italy tomorrow and will watch from the stands when Siena host Juventus FC on Sunday.

'Rasiak can make it'
Juventus legend Boniek, who played alongside Michel Platini and Paolo Rossi in the Bianconeri team of the early 1980s, told uefa.com: "I think he might be successful and become a good footballer. At the moment he's talented, but to play in Italy you must work very hard. But for me, Rasiak can make it."
