Famous name
João Pinto, 36 in August, helped Braga finish fourth in the 2006/07 Liga, scoring two goals in 24 games in his first term with the club. Signed from Boavista FC, he is rather better known for his national-team career with Portugal and long spells with Lisbon rivals SL Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal.
More good news
João Pinto's former international team-mate Jorge Costa, the Braga coach, has secured the services of two other players as well. After Brazilian midfielder Vandinho, 29, accepted a fresh four-year deal yesterday, the 32-year-old Wender has committed to Braga until 2009. Wender has registered 34 goals in 133 league outings for a side who will contest the UEFA Cup for the fourth consecutive campaign in 2007/08.
