AIK's Croatian goalkeeper Ivan Turina has died aged just 32 of a suspected heart attack.

"Ivan has had a heart condition since birth but he was declared fully fit," said AIK president Johan Segui in an official statement. "The players will get together today but there will be no training. We will also be with Ivan's family to support them."

AIK coach Andreas Alm said: "It's unbeliveable that a person who was so alive is no longer with us. He was a person that is instantly missed – his laughter and his way of giving us all bear hugs." Sporting director Björn Wesström called Turina "leadership personified", and added: "He has left an enormous mark at AIK."

First-choice keeper as GNK Dinamo Zagreb clinched the Croatian title in 2005/06, Turina won his only senior cap for Croatia in a 4-0 friendly victory against Hong Kong in February 2006. He moved on to play for Xanthi FC and KKS Lech Poznań, eventually settling at Solna-based AIK in 2010. Extremely popular at the club, the tall No1 was regarded as one of the best players in the Swedish Allsvenskan and signed a new contract in February this year. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and one-year-old twin daughters.

A statement from his first club read: "GNK Dinamo Zagreb, together with the board, all staff and players, want to express sincere condolences to the family of Ivan Turina and want to tell them that we are here for them in these most difficult moments."
