Lazio put brakes on runaway Juventus

Serie A leaders Juventus saw their outstanding winning run come to an end with a 1-1 draw with Lazio at Stadio Olimpico – a match that featured the first-half dismissal of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The Bianconeri were seeking a 13th consecutive Serie A victory, but their plans unravelled on 24 minutes when last-man Buffon was shown a red card for bringing down Miroslav Klose. Antonio Candreva coolly sent replacement keeper Marco Storari the wrong way from the resulting penalty.

However, Juve were unbeaten at Lazio in Serie A since 2003 and showed their mettle to equalise despite their numerical disadvantage, Fernando Llorente looping a header beyond Biancocelesti custodian Etrit Berisha. Both goalkeepers went on to show their reflexes and Keita Baldé struck a post, but an entertaining affair ended honours even. 

In the day's early game, an inspired AC Chievo Verona held SSC Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. Gennaro Sardo put the visitors ahead with a terrific 18th-minute volley and they looked to have weathered the storm as Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne both hit the woodwork for their hosts. However, Raúl Albiol picked a great time to score his first competitive goal for the club, equalising on 88 minutes.
