Slender win for Deportivo

RC Deportivo La Coruña won 1-0 at UE Figueres in the first leg of their Spanish Cup semi-final on Thursday.

Tough battle
Figueres are the first club from the third tier of the Spanish league to reach the last four of the competition and they gave their Primera División opponents a tough battle.

Tristán goal
The only goal of the game came after six minutes when Diego Tristán produced a fine back-heel finish to convert a cross from Lionel Scaloni. Despite falling behind the home side kept pressing forward and had a penalty appeal turned down at the start of the second half when Juli went down in the area under a challenge from César Martín. The second leg will take place at the Municipal Riazor stadium on 30 January.
