Ginola moves to Everton

Members

Everton FC have signed French winger David Ginola on a free transfer from Aston Villa FC.

Free transfer
Ginola, who is now 35, arrives at the Goodison Park club on a free transfer from Villa, where he had failed to gain regular first-team football following his move from Tottenham Hotspur FC in summer 2000. He has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Eligible for FA Cup
The former French international is available for inclusion in the Merseysiders’ squad to face Arsenal FC on Sunday and is also eligible to play in the FA Cup. Ginola told his personal website: "As you all know, things have unfortunately not worked out for me the way I would have wished at Aston Villa, and I was due to leave in the summer. But Villa have agreed to release me now and I am delighted to say that I have signed for [Everton manager] Walter Smith at Goodison Park.

'New lease of life'
"This move feels like a new lease of life for me. I was in danger of going a bit stale in the reserves at Villa Park, but now I have the chance to play [FA] Premiership football again - which for me is the best league in the world."

Fourth English club
Everton become Ginola's English fourth club. The former Paris Saint-Germain FC player crossed the English Channel in 1995 to play for Newcastle United FC, before moving on to Tottenham in 1997.

Agreed on Thursday
Ginola's fellow new arrival Carsley is also available for Sunday's match after finalising his transfer before Friday's noon deadline. Everton and first division Coventry finally reached an agreement on the 27-year-old's transfer fee late on Thursday night.
