The champions had to wait 65 minutes for a goal from Silva. The 26-year-old Brazilian striker’s effort put his side on the way to a vital three points. Alexandre Goulart then added a second in the dying stages to seal the victory.
Alverca in trouble
Boavista are now two points clear of Sporting, although their rivals from Lisbon have got a game in hand. Alverca remain in trouble at the wrong end of the table, in 15th place out of 18 clubs.
