Article body
Denmark maintained their hopes of qualifying for the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup with today's 4-1 Group 2 defeat of Switzerland.
Level at the top
The Danes moved level on points with Sweden, who have won all of their three games so far, but have played a game more and are looking like finishing behind their Scandinavian neighbours. That would see them qualify for a play-off to secure UEFA's fifth and final berth at the tournament in China.
Andersen opener
Brøndby IF player Gitte Andersen set the visiting side on their way with a 12th-minute opening goal and Christina Bonde doubled Denmark's advantage with another in the 41st minute.
Glimmer of hope
Sandra Kaelin gave the Swiss a glimmer of hope when she reduced the arrears a minute before the break but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Merete Pedersen struck in the 56th minute. Bonde, who plays her club football for Fortuna Hjørring, completed the scoring eleven minutes from time.
