Croatia round-up: Zagreb claim maiden title

NK Zagreb claimed their first Croatian Premier League title today despite being held to a scoreless draw at NK Cakovec.

Missed opportunity
Second-placed HNK Hajduk Split could have taken the championship race into another week, but suffered a surprise defeat against struggling NK Hrvatski Dragovoljac. Anto Petrovic's 48th-minute goal earned Dragovoljac a 1-0 victory.

NK Dinamo Zagreb moved past NK Varteks and into third place in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 win over their rivals. Leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to Dario Zahora's sixth-minute opener, Dinamo were in the comfort zone when Silvio Maric netted twice in five minutes early in the second period. Mihael Mikic and Renato Pilipovic completed the rout with goals in the final 20 minutes.

Four for Dragicevic
The most impressive result of the day was recorded by HNK Šibenik, who beat TŠK Topolovac 8-0. Mate Dragicevic scored four goals, while Marko Kartelo, Dragan Pesic, Darko Peric and Danko Jovic grabbed one each against the already relegated Topolovac, who have now conceded 92 goals in 29 games.

Still alive
NK Kamen Ingrad Velika kept their hopes of avoiding automatic relegation alive with a 2-0 win over HNK Rijeka thanks to first-half goals from Ivan Smoje and Josko Popovic. NK Marsonia could also still avoid the drop after a 1-0 win at NK Pomorac, while NK Zadarkomerc remain in trouble after a 1-1 draw at HNK Cibalia. Davor Bajsif netted twice as NK Slaven Belupo beat NK Osijek 2-0.
