An incredible comeback boosted Newcastle United FC's UEFA Champions League hopes.

An incredible comeback today has boosted Newcastle United FC's hopes of a UEFA Champions League place next season.

Stunning victory
Bobby Robson's side fought back from 2-0 down against Derby County FC to claim a stunning victory at St James' Park and move a step closer towards the all-important fourth-place finish in the FA Premiership while Liverpool FC moved back up to second with a 1-0 win over Sunderland AFC.

Late winner
Substitute Lomano Tresor Lua-Lua completed Newcastle's incredible comeback with a goal in the final minute of the game after a 73rd-minute Laurent Robert strike and a second from Kieron Dyer just three minutes later had cancelled out goals from Malcolm Christie and Lee Morris.

Leeds hold their nerve
However, Newcastle are still under pressure from fifth-placed Leeds United AFC after they secured a narrow 1-0 win against Aston Villa FC to boost their own hopes of grabbing England's final Champions League slot. Mark Viduka finished from Robbie Keane's neat flick for the only goal of the game at Villa Park. Villa were without goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who is on the verge of leaving the club for newly-promoted Manchester City FC.

Owen the hero
Liverpool climbed above Manchester United FC into second place with a slender victory at the Stadium of Light. Michael Owen scored the only goal of the game to move his side to within a point of leaders Arsenal FC, who are in FA Cup action tomorrow, although Liverpool have played a game more than the London club.

All draws in England
All of the remaining games in the English top flight ended in draws as a late goal from West Ham United FC's Ian Pearce earned them a 1-1 draw at London rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC, while Charlton Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton FC.

Everton grab a point
Meanwhile at Goodison Park, Everton FC came back from 2-0 down against relegated Leicester City FC to earn a 2-2 draw. Brian Deane hit two goals in the first-half for Leicester, but second-half strikes from Nick Chadwick and Duncan Ferguson earned a share of the spoils for the home side.
