Serhat Akin scored both goals in Fenerbahçe SK's 2-0 Istanbul derby's triumph over Besiktas JK on Sunday. Both sides finished the match with nine men after what proved to be an ill-tempered affair.
Early red card
Besiktas were reduced to ten men from as early as the 35th minute when Ali Eren Beserler was dismissed for a foul on Serhat. Fenerbahçe made the most of their numerical advantage to break the deadlock on the stroke of half-time. Haim Revivo fed Ali Gunes, who put in a deep cross to the far post, where Serhat scored with a volley.
Ümit sent off
Eight minutes into the second-half and Besiktas were left with a mountain to climb when Serhat scored his second. Once again Revivo was involved, releasing Serhat through the Besiktas defence, where he beat Thomas Myhre with a low shot. Fenerbahçe were also reduced to ten men in the 77th minute when Ümit Özat was sent off for his second bookable offence.
Second place
Tempers rose in the remainder of the match, with Besiktas's Ilhan Mansiz and Fenerbahçe's Ceyhun Eris also being dismissed in the closing minutes. Fenerbahçe are now second, three points behind leaders Galatasaray SK, while Besiktas are another five points adrift in third.
Kocaelispor in charge
Kocaelispor raced to a 5-3 away win over Gaziantepspor at the Kami Ocak stadium. The home side took the lead after 15 minutes through Júlio César Antônio, but a hat-trick from Serdar Topraktepe along with goals from Zdravko Lazarov and Kwame Ayew swung the tie in favour of the Kocaelispor. Maxim Romaschenko and Júlio César scored the other goals for Gaziantepspor.
Valuable point for Antalyaspor
Relegation-threatened Antalyaspor earned a valuable three points after Senol Yavas scored the only goal of the game at Bursaspor. And Önder Deniz Kolgu scored the winner as Diyarbakirspor beat Rizespor 1-0.
