Article body
SK Slavia Praha set up a Czech Cup final meeting with AC Sparta Praha on 13 May after overcoming FC Baník Ostrava 1-0 today.
Slavia dominate
Slavia, currently only fifth in the league, are now just one match away from claiming a place in Europe via the cup, but they did not have it easy against a determined Baník side. Baník nearly opened the scoring after eight minutes when Martin Prohászka hit the woodwork but Slavia dominated after that and their reward finally came three minutes into the second half.
Gedeon pounces
Patrik Gedeon pounced on a rebound, after a Richard Dostalek shot had been blocked. The visitors battled back in vain, and even their goalkeeper Kamil Susko joined the attack in the closing minutes.
Home advantage
However, Slavia held on to set up their first Czech Cup final showdown with Sparta since the creation of the Czech Republic in 1993. Slavia will have home advantage because the Strahov stadium, the established venue for the final, is also their home ground.
