FC Torpedo Kutaisi extended their lead at the top of the Georgian Premier League with an away win.

FC Torpedo Kutaisi extended their lead at the top of the Georgian Premier League today with a 2-1 win.

Porishin strikes again
The Georgian champions won 2-1 away at FC Merani-91 Tbilisi as they challenge to defend their national title. The league's top scorer, Ukrainian striker Andriy Porishin, increased his tally to 14 goals after he struck on 48 minutes to put Torpedo in the lead. Ten minutes later, Irakly Shengelia equalised for the hosts, after he latched on to a pass from Alexandre Koshkadze.

Didava steals three points
But it was captain Givi Didava who led Torpedo's final offensive. His unlikely effort on goal stole a deserved draw from Merani-91 and gave his club a vital three points. The gap between Torpedo and their main title rivals FC Lokomotiv Tbilisi is now seven points, but Lokomotiv have a game in hand as they take on FC Dinamo Tbilisi in a local derby on Saturday.

Supervision from FFG
The match between Torpedo and Merani-91 was watched by a specially appointed comission from the Football Federation of Georgia (FFG). The supervision was decided after both clubs were accused of match-fixing in previous league games.
