'Glory days'
Aybaba, a former Besiktas JK defender, said that he planned "to bring the glory days back to the club" after signing a one-year contract at the Avni Aker stadium. His vice-president, Ahmet Agaoglu, added: "Samet Aybaba is a coach who has a very good character and principles. Trabzonspor will benefit from him because he is an ambitious person." Aybaba previously coached at Gaziantepspor, Vanspor and Genclerbirligi SK.
Trabzon hot-seat
Trabzonspor finished 13th in the first division, prompting Briegel to resign after a 4-2 last-day defeat by Göztepe. As well as the ex-German international, Aybaba follows Özkan Sümer, Ali Kemal Denizci, Gordon Milne, Ahmet Suat Özyazici, Giray Bulak, Yilmaz Vural and Sadi Tekelioglu in the Trabzon hot-seat.
