Rowett swaps Leicester for Charlton

Charlton Athletic FC have signed Leicester City FC defender Gary Rowett.

Charlton Athletic FC have made their first signing of the summer by agreeing a €5.6m deal for Leicester City FC defender Gary Rowett.

Second time lucky
Charlton manager Alan Curbishley has long admired the 28-year-old and first tried to sign him two years ago. However, Rowett then decided to leave Birmingham City FC for Leicester rather than Charlton.

Knee injury
Rowett was an ever-present in his first season at Filbert Street but then played only a handful of games this season because of a knee injury. Leicester have been relegated this season from the FA Premiership and it is thought Rowett will be just the first of a number of players to leave the club.

Versatile performer
"Gary is a player I have admired for some time," Curbishley told Charlton's official website. "He can play in any position across the back four and with Jorge Costa going back I am delighted that we have been able to secure his services so quickly."
