Universitatea told to pay up

FC Universitatea Craiova must pay FC Extensiv Craiova a sell-on fee for Claudiu Niculescu.

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has ordered FC Universitatea Craiova to pay neighbours FC Extensiv Craiova almost €500,000 in sell-on fees for a player who left the club on a free transfer.

Owed money from transfer
Universitatea have been told to hand over the €87,000 Extensiv claim they are owed from Claudiu Niculescu's original transfer between the clubs - plus €400,000 the former insist they did not receive following the striker's subsequent move to Italy.

Signed in 1998
Universitatea had agreed to pay Extensiv 50 per cent of any internal transfer fee and 40 per cent of any external fee when they signed Niculescu in 1998, with the latter club remaining co-owners of the player.

Move to Genoa
But in 2001, Universitatea's chief investor, Gigi Netoiu, allowed Niculescu to join FC Dinamo Bucuresti for nothing having agreed with the player that he could leave on a free if the club could not pay his salary. When Niculescu then left Dinamo for Italian Serie B side Genoa 1893 in a €1m deal last month Universitatea themselves received no sell-on fee.
