No confidence
Thordarsson resigned from Brann on Tuesday, blaming an apparent lack of confidence from the club's board in his ability. However, the 50-year-old will not encounter such a problem at Lyn. "We have wanted to sign him for a year," said the club's managing director, Ole Ray Grødseth.
'Good squad'
After signing a two-year contract, Thordarsson said: "I feel as though I am arriving at a well-organised club who have a good squad to build on." The Icelander first took charge of Lyn between 1991 and 1992, before departing for Lillestrøm SK and then Estonia, where he coached FC Flora and the national team.
Short spell
Thordarsson replaces Hrvoje Braovic, who lasted just four months at the Ullevål stadium. The assistant coach of Croatia's FIFA World Cup squad, Braovic replaced caretaker Sture Fladmark in July when Lyn boasted a five-point lead at the Tippeligaen summit. During his short reign, though, the club slid down the table, eventually finishing third.
