Medical advice
Totti, who struck his tenth league goal of the campaign before departing against Reggina, underwent a medical on Monday and has been advised to take a break from football to allow the joint to heal.
January return
Club doctor Franco Mariani said: "At the moment nobody knows how long he will be sidelined for. It is just pain and not a specific injury. However, in my opinion he will miss the next match and return after the Christmas break on 12 January after resting for a while."
Wait and see
There will be no further tests in the next few days as Roma wait to see how the Italian international responds to treatment. Roma lie eighth in Serie A after arresting their recent poor run of form with a 3-0 win at the weekend. They resume their UEFA Champions League campaign in February against Valencia CF.
