Arsenal settle on Warmuz solution

Former RC Lens goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz has joined English champions Arsenal FC on a six-month contract.

Former RC Lens goalkeeper Guillaume Warmuz has joined English champions Arsenal FC on a six-month contract, thus solving the title-chasing side's goalkeeping headache.

'It's just great'
"It's just great," Warmuz said. "I have had contact with Arsenal since last month. I am delighted to be joining Arsenal. They are a team full of world-class players and I am looking forward to playing for one of the best clubs in Europe."

Not eligible for Europe
The 32-year-old spent most of his professional career at Lens before leaving in December, since when he has been without a club. Warmuz will not be eligible to play for the London side in the UEFA Champions League, having already appeared in this season's competition for Lens.

Cover for Seaman
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger had been desperately looking for cover for first-choice goalkeeper David Seaman, the 39-year-old England keeper. Last week, Wenger had discussions in London with Brazil's FIFA World Cup-winning keeper Marcos but no deal was agreed.

Wenger pleased

Of course, we are very pleased to have signed Guillaume

Deputy sold
Arsenal sold Seaman's deputy Richard Wright to Everton FC last summer and their other goalkeepers Stuart Taylor and Rami Shaaban have suffered injuries this season.
