Extenuating circumstances
The appeals body decided that the suspension handed out by the Comité de Competición, Spanish football's disciplinary body, was too harsh given the level of provocation involved.
Salgado clash
Alfaro was seen to stamp on Real Madrid CF full-back Michel Salgado during the match at the Santiago Bernabéu on 2 January after being the victim of a late tackle by the Madrid player. Consequently the appeals body commuted the penalty to a three-match ban.
