Manchester City FC have confirmed that Paulo Wanchope will miss the remainder of the season after dislocating his shoulder.
Comeback halted
The 26-year-old Costa Rica striker has not played for the English club this season, having spent six months recovering from knee surgery. However, he was preparing for his return to the first team, but sustained his latest injury in training on Sunday.
'A big blow'
"Paulo will be out for the rest of the season," said City manager Kevin Keegan. "It is a big blow for us and for him. He had worked so hard to get back fit again. He was back in training and training very well. It was a freak accident, an innocuous thing. His shoulder came out when he fell - now he will have to have surgery."
World Cup goals
Wanchope joined City from West Ham United FC in August 2000 and last appeared for the club in February 2002 in a 1-0 FA Cup defeat at Newcastle United FC. His last match was Costa Rica's 5-2 loss to Brazil in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, a game in which he scored both his country's goals.
