Sport suspended in Serbia

Sporting events in Serbia and Montenegro have been suspended after the assassination of the prime minister.

State of emergency
Djindjic, 50, was shot by snipers as he arrived at the government building in Belgrade on Wednesday. The government has put the country on a state of emergency and sporting fixtures over the next three days will be postponed until further notice.

Sports events postponed
"As our government has established a state of emergency, together with three days of mourning because of the tragic death of Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic, all sports events in Serbia will not go ahead in the aforementioned period," said a statement signed by education and sports minister Dragan Vuksanovic.

New date expected
A new date for the 20th round of Prva Savezna Liga fixtures will be announced in the next few days.
