Ferencváros coach gets extra time

Members

Ferencvárosi TC coach József Garami has agreed a new deal to stay in charge of the club until June 2004.

Great opportunity
The 64-year-old former coach of the Hungarian national team arrived at the club, regarded as the biggest in Hungary, in January 2002 and is delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue his work with the NB I side.

Unfinished business
"I did not hesitate a minute when Ferencváros asked me to be the trainer until 2004," said Garami. "I haven't finished the work that I started in January 2002. With this new contract I have a chance. I can't imagine a nicer job with a bigger challenge."

'Absolutely delighted'
Ferencváros club secretary József Szeiler was every bit as happy to announce that Garami would be staying at the club, saying: "We are absolutely satisfied with József Garami's work. He did a fine job last season and now we're fighting for our 28th NB I title and also we are in the semi-finals of the Hungarian Cup."

Title challenge
Garami's side currently lie second in the Hungarian league table with 45 points, just one point behind current league leaders MTK Hungária FC - the club whom the coach led to the NB I title in 1996/97. In 37 games as coach of Ferencváros, Garami has achieved an impressive record of 25 wins, five draws and seven defeats.

Vast experience
One of Hungary's most experienced coaches, Garami has overseen 471 matches in the NB I and was briefly caretaker coach of the Hungarian national team in 1987. He has led Ferencváros to four straight wins since the spring restart of the Hungarian season. His side play Videoton FC Fehérvár on Saturday in the final game before the league splits into its relegation and championship play-offs.
