Mönchengladbach capture Kirch

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach coach Ewald Lienen has seen his side lifted by the signing of Oliver Kirch.

Four-year contract
Midfield player Oliver Kirch had attracted the interest of a number of Bundesliga clubs but has decided to join Mönchengladbach from Third Division side SC Verl. The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract, starting from next season.

Lift needed
The deal will be a welcome boost for the club, who are battling at the wrong end of the table. After 27 games, they lie third from bottom with just 29 points. "I am pleased to come to such a big club as Borussia and I hope to seize my chance in the Bundesliga," said Kirch, who completed a medical this afternoon.

Staying put
It has been a busy day for the club as they have also extended the contracts of three first-team players. Midfield player Peer Kluge and defender Marcelo Pletsch have agreed new contracts until 2005, while team-mate Markus Hausweiler has signed up until summer 2004.
