Stunning victory
A stunning 6-1 victory gave 1999 and 2001 winners Debrecen their chance of a third triumph in five years. MTK in fact took the lead through Péter Czvitkovics on 26 minutes, but Brazilian defender Flavio Pim ensured the scores were level at half-time. Following the break, Debrencen turned on the style, Tibor Dombi taking just three minutes to put them ahead. Zoltán Kiss and Kaha Sketiani extended the lead before striker Péter Bajzát scored twice in added time, when MTK's Goran Jezdimirovic was dismissed to complete a miserable day for the side lying second in the league.
Late winner
League leaders Ferencváros overcame second division side Elõre 2-1 to boost their hopes of a domestic double. The 18-time cup winners went ahead on 18 minutes through striker Attila Tököli, but were pegged back five minutes later by Gyula Hegedûs. However, Tököli struck again eight minutes from the end to clinch victory and a place in the final to be played at the Puskás Ferenc stadium, Budapest on 5 May.
Kipsest league victory
Meanwhile, in a league match brought forward from early May due to that week's UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifiers, Kispest Honvéd FC won 3-1 at Dunaferr SE. Kipsest gained their first victory of the relegation play-offs three days after the arrival of new coach József Duró, to move to within a point of Dunaferr, currently out of the relegation zone in tenth place.
