Wales round-up: Llansantffraid eyeing title

Members

TNS Llansantffraid FC took a step towards the title with a 2-0 win against Carmarthen Town AFC.

TNS Llansantffraid FC chairman Mike Harris declared the League of Wales title is within his side's grasp after watching them beat Carmarthen Town AFC 2-0 at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Evans on the spot
Scott Ruscoe's goal and a penalty from Steve Evans put Llansantffraid four points clear of Barry Town AFC at the top of the table and Harris said: "It's for us to lose now rather than for Barry to win. We need another four more wins to take the title. I'd love to take the championship because it obviously means entry into the [UEFA] Champions League."

Hazledean haunts
Elsewhere, Bangor City FC waved goodbye to their title hopes as they lost 2-1 to Newtown AFC, former Bangor player Sean Hazledean sealing their fate at Latham Park. Welshpool Town AFC sank further into relegation trouble with a 2-0 defeat against Haverfordwest County AFC, for whom Rhys Griffiths and Simon Trueman found the net.

French connection
On Friday night Flexys Cefn Druids AFC beat Oswestry Town FC 1-0 but four clubs turned their attentions back to the Welsh Cup, which reached the semi-final stage at the weekend. Barry's 1-0 victory against Rhyl FC in Aberystwyth on Saturday, secured by Jon French's goal, booked them a place in the final.

Summers strike
The side aiming to prevent Barry scooping a third successive cup triumph in next month's showpiece will be Cwmbran Town FC, who overcame Ton Pentre FC 2-1 at Jenner Park. With the scores locked at 1-1, Chris Summers scored the decisive goal with just two minutes left to play.
