Belgium international midfield player Johan Walem has signed a two-year contract with Torino Calcio.

Italian job
The 31-year-old was told he could leave by R. Standard de Liège and has opted to return to Italy, where he previously played for Udinese Calcio and Parma AC. Torino were relegated to Serie B at the end of the Italian league season, but Walem will be hoping he can help the club make an immediate return to the top flight.

'Italian football is great'
"There was only one other Belgian club where I could go except Standard and that is [RSC] Anderlecht but they did not need me," he said. "Torino is a great club, where Enzo Scifo played and was very popular. The football in Italy is great, I like it, I feel myself there.  In Standard it was a bit difficult sometimes but I leave friends with everybody."

International experience
Walem, who has won 36 caps for Belgium, joined Standard in 2001, having begun his career with Anderlecht before moving to Italy.
