European hopes
Zaglebie began this season with a belief that they would qualify for Europe, but the campaign has been a huge disappointment and they sit 14th in the Ekstraklasa, the final relegation place, with six games remaining.

Former coach
A former Zaglebie coach, the 52-year-old Topolski replaces Wieslaw Wojno, appointed in October but removed from his post yesterday. Wojno will continue to work at the club, while his assistant, Ryszard Bozyczko, is to take charge of the reserve team. Romuald Kujawa, the former coach of the reserves, will directly assist Topolski.
