Van Marwijk set to depart

Eredivisie club Feyenoord are to part company with coach Bert van Marwijk at the end of the season.

Feyenoord coach Bert van Marwijk will step down at the end of the season as part of a wholesale backroom reorganisation process at the Eredivisie club.

Baan leaves
After an evaluation meeting chaired by Jorien van den Herik, the Rotterdam club parted company with technical manager Rob Baan and decided to begin searching for Van Marwijk's summer successor immediately. "The reason for the goodbye is the fact that we have a different opinion about the club's football technical policy," explained Van den Herik. "Inside the organisation there is insufficient faith in that policy for the future."

'Fully motivated'
Van Marwijk has stressed his commitment to see out what will be his final season at the Feijenoord stadium, but underlined his continued appetite for the game. "I am still fully motivated to carry this team to as high a finish as possible," he said. "I know the demand for performance at Feyenoord like nobody else - but after that I am ready to take a new challenge elsewhere."

Current struggle
Despite guiding the club to their 2002 UEFA Cup success, Van Marwijk has struggled to get the best out of the new crop of players at Feyenoord this season. The club are currently fourth in the table, nine points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven, having bowed out of this season's UEFA Cup at the hands of FK Teplice.
