Fresh Feyenoord deal for Ono

Shinji Ono has agreed a one-year contract extension with Feyenoord that could keep him at the club until 2007.

'Key player'
The 24-year-old Japanese international midfield player joined the Eredivisie side in 2001 after five years with Urawa Red Diamonds in his homeland, and helped Feyenoord win the UEFA Cup in his first season. "In Shinji we see one of the key players of the team," said the club's technical manager Rob Baan.

'Future successes'
Ono, who appeared in the FIFA World Cup finals in 1998 and 2002 and was voted Asian player of the year in 2002, is looking forward to more glory with the Rotterdam side, saying: "I really like it at Feyenoord, and will be glad to help the club build for future successes." Feyenoord currently lie in fourth place in the Dutch top flight, and face Czech side FK Teplice in the UEFA Cup second round.
