A freak own goal by Reggina Calcio goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi sent FC Internazionale through to the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup tonight.
Unlikely draw
In the second minute of added time, and with Reggina leading 1-0, Inter were heading out of the competition on the away goals rule. But Argentinian striker Julio Cruz's long-range drive struck the post, bounced off Belardi's head and rolled into the net to give the visitors an unlikely 1-1 draw on the night and a 3-2 aggregate win.
Leon opener
Midfield player Julio Cesar Leon had put Reggina ahead in the 38th minute when he nodded in Gianluca Falsini's cross at the far post but the home side were subsequently reduced to ten men when defender Simone Giacchetta was dismissed. Inter will play the winners of tomorrow's match between Bologna FC and Udinese Calcio in the last eight.
Roma advance
AS Roma also moved into the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win at Serie B side US Palermo which gave the Serie A leaders a 3-1 aggregate success. Palermo took the lead in the 30th minute through Simone Pepe, only for Damiano Tommasi and Marco Delvecchio to win the game for Roma. The Giallorossi await the winners of tomorrow's second leg between AC Milan and Sampdoria UC.
Lazio through
Finally, S.S. Lazio and Parma AC set up a quarter-final tie by beating Modena FC and Venezia respectively. Parma lost 1-0 at home to Serie B team AC Venezia but went through 2-1 overall. Lazio, meanwhile, were 1-0 home winners to secure a 3-0 aggregate success.
