Bech suffers for Midtjylland slump

Troels Bech has become the fifth Superligaen coaching casualty this season after being sacked by FC Midtjylland.

Troels Bech has been sacked as coach of FC Midtjylland, 18 months before the end of his contract with the Danish club.

Expectations not met
Bech, who joined Midtjylland in summer 2002, becomes the fifth Superliga coach to lose his job this autumn. After five defeats and just one win in their last eight games, Midtjylland have lost pace with the division's pacesetters and slipped to sixth in the table. "Only five points out of 24 from our last eight games did not meet our expectations," said Midtjylland sports director Jens Ørgaard. "We simply have to be better at exploiting our resources."

Major surprise
Despite the club's recent form, the sacking is still seen as a major surprise in Denmark. Ørgaard expects to appoint a new coach in January, so assistant coach Jørn Aas will lead the team in their last match of the autumn programme on Sunday against BK Frem.
