Fish injury hits Charlton ambitions

Members

Charlton Athletic FC's UEFA Champions League hopes have been damaged by an injury to defender Mark Fish.

Domestic accident
Reports in his native South Africa said Fish cut himself after falling through a glass table at his home and required 39 stitches. The 30-year-old has helped the London club rise to fourth place in the Premiership, and within reach of a UEFA Champions League berth, making 25 appearances this season.

'Massive blow'
"The news is a massive blow for Addicks boss Alan Curbishley, who now has just two fit senior central defenders in his squad, in Chris Perry and Jonathan Fortune," Charlton said on their official website.

Upcoming matches
Fish, who has 60 caps, has not played for his country since 2000. He looks certain to miss Charlton's trip to fifth-placed Newcastle United FC on Saturday, and the home game against Aston Villa FC a week later. However, he could return for the match against Portsmouth FC on 10 April.
