Article body
PSV Eindhoven missed the chance to close in on Eredivisie title rivals AFC Ajax as they fell 2-1 at home to Roda JC. Ronald Koeman's side had earlier lost 1-0 at FC Utrecht but remain six points clear at the top of the Dutch First Division.
Escudé error
In Sunday's earlier kick-off, Ajax seemed to have given PSV the perfect opportunity to haul them in as they succumbed to Utrecht striker Stefan Tanghe's 76th-minute strike, after a mistake from French defender Julien Escudé.
PSV slip
However, PSV surprisingly slipped up against Roda, who took an early two-goal lead through Arouna Kone and Brazilian forward Cristiano. Despite pulling a goal back through Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink on 35 minutes, Guus Hiddink's side were frustrated and could not find the net again.
Feyenoord on Song
Bert van Marwijk's Feyenoord were the only team in the top four to have a successful weekend, recovering from a poor first-half display to beat Willem II 3-0 with goals from Anthony Lurling, Song Chung-gug and Ebi Smolarek coming in the final half-hour.
Away success
RKC Waalwijk enjoyed a 2-1 away win at FC Groningen with goals from Jason Oost and Yuri Cornelisse, while ADO Den Haag also had an away sucess, beating FC Volendam 2-0 with goals from Cedric van der Gun and Roy Stroeve.
Heerenveen on form
Meanwhile on Saturday, in-form SC Heerenveen, who have beaten both Ajax and PSV recently, continued their good run as goals from Daniel Hestad and Myka Vayrynen gave them a 2-1 away win against NEC Nijmegen, for whom Youssouf Hersi had opened the scoring.
Alkmaar crash
AZ Alkmaar stayed third despite a 4-1 defeat at FC Twente, while RBC Roosendaal were held to a 1-1 draw by neighbours NAC Breda. On Friday, FC Zwolle rescued a point courtesy of a late Albert van der Haar penalty in their 1-1 draw with SBV Vitesse.
