Article body
Long career
Alefantos, who has coached more than 25 teams during a long and colourful career, returns to the Athens club for a third time, after the Olympiacos board of directors decided unanimously to hire him again.
Previous spells
Neither of the 64-year-old's previous spells lasted very long and it would be a surprise if he bucked that trend this time. He was first in charge of Olympiacos from November 1983 until March 1984 and returned in January 1994, remaining until September that year.
AEK defeat
Protasov's dismissal was confirmed on Tuesday, 48 hours after a home defeat by AEK Athens FC had cost Olympiacos their place at the top of the table. They now sit second, two points behind Panathinaikos FC.
